Acquired: 1999
Location: Second Floor Quiet Reading Room

Alix Stefan was born in Wisconsin and raised in Puerto Rico. She studied art in upper New York State and at the University of Arizona. Stefan works with various mediums and styles, but all her paintings tend to invite viewers into the natural colors of her surroundings.

"I like to take something realistic and simplify it," she says. "I need it to invoke a feeling in me. When that happens, I bring emotion to it, and you have a painting to enjoy for years to come."

The four landscapes in the Quiet Reading Room reflect her obvious love and respect for nature, with the greens, pastels, and blues of the trees, flowers, and sky creating a restful atmosphere.
