David Gerstein

Big Rally
(hand painted steel sculpture)
Acquired: 2006
Location: Children’s Department above the children’s public computers and chess table

David Gerstein is a contemporary Israeli artist and sculptor whose work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, South America, and his home country. His whimsical and colorful hand-painted metal sculptures express the joy of life and the forces of good in the world.

Gerstein was born in Jerusalem in 1944. He studied at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris as well as in New York and London. His first exhibition was in 1971 in Jerusalem, and he has since displayed his work in Canada, Germany, Brazil, and the United States. Gerstein’s public art can be seen in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Germany.

David Gerstein’s Big Rally conveys the movement, color, and excitement of a bicycle race.
